Outreach Review for 2016

With the last of the outreach events now completed we can look back on another successful year introducing more of the general public to the wonders of the Rural Life Museum.

Our year started with the Surrey show at Guildford at the end of May. It was the first time we have attended this event and succeeded in achieving a second place award in the trade section. We took along our wheelright equipment and invited the children to help assemble a wagon wheel, this proved to be very popular.

For many years the RLC has supported our local fetes and fayres by providing static displays of the museums artefacts and also practical demonstrations such as pole lathe turning, Green woodworking etc.

This year we have continued this activity and attended Churt, Frensham, Tilford and a new venue this year Ewshot.

There were others where we could have been represented if more volunteers were willing to help, such as Bourne, Binstead, Headley and so on.

Some other events we have supported this year include the  Pierreport Festival of farming, food  and wildlife, Farnham’s WW1 celebration, Farnham Town carnival, The Great Dorset steam show, Stockbridge show, Findon Sheep fair  and The Surrey Hills wood fair.

This year we have attended many events both large and small. Many thanks to those Rustics who gave up their time to help, all said they had an enjoyable day out. There is so much more we could do with more support. We are already planning for next year why not add your name to the list?
